Sisters win gold at Pennsylvania Senior Olympics

Two Northeast seniors brought home the gold.

Bringing home the gold: Somerton’s Anne Kalanty (left) and Fox Chase’s Jan Birks were winners at the recent Pennsylvania Senior Olympics, held in the Wilkes-Barre area.

Two Northeast Philadelphia sisters, Somerton’s Anne Kalanty and Fox Chase’s Jan Birks, struck gold in the former coal-mining areas of northeastern Pennsylvania.

Kalanty and Birks were winners at the recent Pennsylvania Senior Olympics, held in the Wilkes-Barre area.

Kalanty took first-place medals in singles tennis and doubles tennis.

Birks won and broke her own record in the 100-meter run and long jump.

By winning gold medals, the women have qualified to represent Pennsylvania in the National Senior Games, in June 2019 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. ••
